Nagpur: Days after donning a sanitation worker’s uniform to stage a protest outside the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s special general body meeting, Congress corporator Shailesh Pande on Saturday felicitated sanitation workers from Prabhag 11, urging them to help make the ward the cleanest among the city’s 38 prabhags. The programme was organised by the Congress Block Committee of Prabhag 11 at Datt Sabhagruha in Zingabai Takli to mark World Sanitation Workers’ Day. Male sanitation workers were presented with shirt and trouser sets resembling the official NMC uniform, while women workers received sarees in recognition of their contribution.Pande said sanitation workers continue to discharge their duties despite acute staff shortages and challenging working conditions. Recognising their contribution would boost morale and motivate them to serve with greater dedication.“The backbone of the city’s cleanliness is its sanitation workforce. While honouring them is important, the administration must also ensure adequate manpower and resources so they can perform their duties effectively,” he said.
