Nagpur: MahaMetro has erected the 100th segmental viaduct span on Bhandara Road and begun placing massive precast portal beams weighing up to 115 tonnes in Kamptee, marking major progress on two stretches of Nagpur Metro Phase-II.Reach 4A on Bhandara Road (Pardi stretch) has now completed 100 of the 182 planned segmental spans, taking overall viaduct progress on the 5.33km stretch to 70%. Segmental erection began in October 2025 and is being carried out using three launching girders — Shivalik, Shikhar and Giri.The stretch extends from Prajapati Nagar/HB Town to Transport Nagar and includes three elevated stations — Pardi, Kapsi Khurd and Transport Nagar — besides a 2km double-decker section above the existing Pardi flyover. Of the 1,844 segments required, 1,309 have been cast, while 175 of 194 piers are complete. Segmental erection is targeted for completion by June 2027.On Reach 2B towards Kanhan, where overall progress has reached around 45%, the construction challenge is heavier. In Kamptee, 12 portal piers are planned, of which seven have already been built. The beams placed over these piers are 11 metres long, have a 2m x 2m cross-section and weigh between 110 and 115 tonnes each.To reduce weight, each beam has been designed with an 800mm-diameter hollow section running seven metres inside it. The beams are cast in a yard, cured for 14 days and transported to the site on trailers after attaining the required strength. They are then lifted into position using a 700-tonne crane. Given their size and the traffic on the stretch, erection is being undertaken only at night, with approved diversions and traffic marshals deployed wherever required.The Kamptee stretch also includes a sharp 126-metre-radius curve, for which four portal piers have been provided. Erection of one span at this critical location has already been completed. The two stretches form part of Phase-II’s extensions towards Bhandara Road and Kamptee-Kanhan.
