JAMUI: The mother of the minor girl allegedly molested in Bihar’s Jamui said chief minister Samrat Choudhary met her family “like a guardian” and assured them of her daughter’s safety and education.“When he met us, it did not feel like he was the chief minister of Bihar; he met us like a guardian,” the woman said. She said Choudhary blessed her daughter and told her, “You are a very brave girl,” while assuring the family that they could approach him without hesitation if they needed anything.The victim’s mother also praised the administration for the swift action in the case, saying the family had received “a lot of support and cooperation”.She referred to the police action, including the shooting of the main accused in the leg during an encounter.The mother’s comments came after she and her family met Choudhary following the September 19 incident in which the Class 10 girl and a male classmate were allegedly stopped by a group of youths while returning from coaching classes.The girl was allegedly surrounded and molested, while the boy was separated from her.Videos of the incident later surfaced on social media, prompting police to register a case under the POCSO Act and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).Police had initially identified around seven people allegedly involved in the incident and arrested three. The main accused was later shot in the leg during a police encounter, according to police sources.The victim’s mother said the family was satisfied with the government’s response and that the chief minister had assured them about her daughter’s education and safety.She also appealed to people across Bihar and the country to support victims of such crimes.“We would like society, the people of Jamui, the people of Bihar and the people of the country to support every daughter in the same way they have supported my daughter, so that no daughter or her family ever hesitates to seek punishment for a criminal,” she said.Meanwhile, the mother of the main accused has alleged that police staged the encounter and claimed her son was shot after being forced to run.Police had earlier said the accused was shot in the leg during an encounter in the Town Police Station area.
