Patna: Education minister Mithilesh Tiwari on Friday said agriculture education should be linked with employment and entrepreneurship to help youth become self-reliant. He said education must go beyond degrees and provide students with skills and opportunities to build careers.Tiwari was speaking at the inaugural session of a two-day workshop on ‘Green minds for green nation: Agri education and skilling @ 2047’ at Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Pusa, in Samastipur. The workshop was organised jointly by NITI Aayog and the university.According to the official communique, the minister said the education department was working with the approach of ‘reform to perform’ and the resolve of ‘learn to earn’. He said education needed to be connected with skills, technology, innovation and employment.“Agriculture has vast potential for employment and entrepreneurship. Modern technology, research and innovation can give a new direction to the sector,” Tiwari said.He said agriculture universities and higher education institutions should equip students with modern agricultural knowledge and skills so that they can explore entrepreneurship opportunities in the sector.Tiwari also stressed the need for coordination among educational institutions, agriculture universities, policymakers and industry to achieve the goal of a developed India by 2047. “Research must reach farms and innovation must reach markets,” he said.He later visited an agriculture exhibition on the university campus showcasing research-based products and modern farming technologies.
