Mangaluru: New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) marked the commencement of Merchant Navy Week with a flag pinning ceremony, honouring the invaluable contributions of seafarers and the maritime fraternity to the nation’s trade and economy.As part of the celebrations, the first Merchant Navy flag/lapel was ceremonially pinned on the apparel of Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, symbolising respect and recognition for India’s maritime professionals. The lapel was pinned by Capt Manoj Joshi, deputy conservator, NMPA, along with Rehman, deputy director (technical), Directorate General of Shipping, highlighting the importance of the maritime sector and acknowledging the critical role played by seafarers in sustaining global trade and logistics. The ceremony emphasised the significance of Merchant Navy Week and reaffirmed the commitment of maritime stakeholders in promoting awareness about the contribution of seafarers to the nation’s economy and maritime growth. Merchant Navy Week is observed to recognise and celebrate the dedication, resilience and professionalism of seafarers and maritime personnel who ensure uninterrupted movement of cargo and support global trade.
