A mother’s search for her missing merchant navy son, Sarthak Mohapatra, has led her to Singapore. Sarthak vanished from the vessel EA Jersey on February 3. His family, now in Singapore with Directorate General of Shipping officials, seeks access to crucial CCTV footage and technical evidence to uncover the truth behind his disappearance.

Bhubaneswar: Rasmita Mohapatra, mother of merchant navy cadet Sarthak Mohapatra from Bhadrak district, arrived in Singapore on Sunday along with her brother to oversee efforts to trace her son, who went missing from a vessel on Feb 3.The vessel on which Sarthak was working, EA Jersey, also docked in Singapore on Sunday. Anglo-Eastern, the company that operates the vessel, had said that Sarthak was last seen exiting his room in formal clothes on Feb 3 morning.“Since the vessel was searched by its crew members after Sarthak went missing, we are hoping to get access to CCTV footage and all other technical evidence from the period when he was last seen to understand the circumstances leading to the incident,” Rasmita said.Earlier, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), Mauritius, carried out aerial search operations after the cadet was reported missing. With the ship now docked, authorities were expected to intensify search and inspection efforts.Sarthak’s family demanded transparency, an independent investigation, and full access to all technical evidence related to the vessel. Rasmita and her brother were accompanied by two officials of Directorate General of Shipping.Earlier, the family met chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi, seeking his intervention in the case.
