Shillong: A special Pocso court in Shillong has sentenced a father to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment for committing ‘penetrative sexual assault’ on his minor daughter.The case pertains to Oct 5, 2022, when an FIR was lodged in the city in this regard, East Khasi Hills superintendent of police Vivek Syiem said.Following an investigation, the accused was arrested and a chargesheet was filed on Oct 31, 2022.In a judgment delivered on April 1 this year, special judge (Pocso), R Rymbai, convicted the man under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (Pocso) Act.The convict, having already spent over three years in judicial custody during the trial, will serve the remaining 21 years, six months, and four days of his sentence.The court also imposed a fine, the default of which will result in an additional three months of rigorous imprisonment for the convict.
