Madhubani: District magistrate Anand Sharma on Sunday held a meeting with officials of NBCC (India) Limited to discuss proposals for planned and sustainable urban development of Madhubani.The meeting focused on strengthening basic infrastructure, improving civic amenities and linking Madhubani’s Mithila art and cultural heritage with tourism and the local economy.Two proposals — an Integrated Waste Management System and a ‘Mithila Arts Experience Centre’ on the public-private partnership (PPP) model — received particular attention.The waste management system is proposed to cover waste collection, transportation, processing, treatment and scientific disposal. Sharma asked NBCC to prepare a practical, long-term model suited to the city’s requirements.The proposed arts centre would showcase, promote and facilitate the sale of Mithila paintings and other local crafts, while providing artists better market access and tourists a cultural experience.Sharma directed NBCC to prepare DPRs after technical and financial assessment.NBCC deputy general manager Suman Kant; project manager Abhay Kumar, additional collector and municipal commissioner of Madhubani, among others, attended the meeting.
