A second attempt can sometimes change the course of a student’s journey. For Prabhat Kumar Yadav, another year of preparation turned into the result he had been working towards. His NEET UG 2026 performance has now opened the way for him to study medicine at one of Lucknow’s major medical institutions.Prabhat, from Devkipur village in Jaunpur district, has scored 627 marks and secured an All India Rank of 3,864. He has been allotted an MBBS seat at King George’s Medical University, Lucknow.The achievement comes after a period of preparation that took him from his village to Kota and included a second attempt at the medical entrance examination.
A second chance changed the result
Prabhat’s first NEET attempt ended with 504 marks. He chose not to stop there and took a drop year to prepare for the examination again.For his second attempt, he continued his preparation and eventually raised his score to 627 marks in NEET UG 2026.Before preparing for NEET, Prabhat had also maintained a strong academic record. He scored 89.44 per cent in Class 10 and 83.44 per cent in Class 12, according to a report by NDTV.
From Devkipur to Kota
Prabhat began preparing for NEET in his village before moving to Kota to attend classroom coaching.According to media reports, he received a 50% fee concession from ALLEN Career Institute, but arranging the remaining amount was still a challenge for his family. During this period, his maternal uncle, Dayaram Yadav, stepped in to support his education and help him continue his preparation.With that support, Prabhat was able to stay focused on his studies and continue working towards his goal of becoming a doctor.
Years of work supported his education
Prabhat’s father, Mahendra Kumar Yadav, has spent nearly 20 years working as an auto-rickshaw driver in Mumbai.While working there, Mahendra continued sending his earnings to his family. He lived in a small chawl in Mumbai, while Prabhat stayed in Devkipur with his mother Bansraji, grandfather Indra Bahadur Yadav and siblings, according to a report by India Today.The income from his work helped meet the family’s needs and supported his children’s education.Thumb image: Instagram
