Nagpur: A medicine trader from Ayyappa Nagar was duped of around 22 lakh after falling for a social media advertisement promising high profits in share trading, police said on Monday.As per the complaint, Rahmuddin Qazi contacted the accused, Mohsin Raza (42), on the mobile number given in the advertisement. The accused allegedly assured lucrative returns and persuaded Qazi to invest varying amounts between July 21 and August 23.The complainant transferred around 22 lakh through online banking to accounts controlled by the accused. However, neither any profit nor the principal amount was returned, the complaint stated.When Qazi demanded his money back, the accused allegedly stopped responding, leading to registration of a case of cyber fraud under relevant provisions of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the Information Technology Act.Investigation is under way to trace the accused and recover the amount. Police have advised citizens to verify the credentials of any online investment schemes thoroughly before transferring money and to report such frauds immediately.
