Hyderabad: Medical bodies on Friday condemned the alleged assault on paediatrician Dr Santosh Raj at a private hospital in Nirmal, calling for strict action against the culprits and stronger protection for healthcare workers.According to them, the incident occurred following a dispute related to hospital billing and escalated into physical violence by a group of attendants. The altercation led to an assault on Dr Raj and intimidation of hospital staff.In a statement, the medical bodies said that doctors and staff work in high-pressure environments, often treating critically ill patients while dealing with emotionally distressed families. Acts of violence, they noted, not only endanger medical personnel but also disrupt hospital services and compromise patient care.Similarly, the HRDA described the incident as an “unacceptable attack” on the paediatrician and condemned the violence against hospital staff. The body said such incidents create fear among doctors and undermine the healthcare delivery system.The associations called for a prompt investigation, identification of all those involved, strict enforcement of legal provisions, and stronger security arrangements in hospitals and clinical settings to prevent such incidents.
