Nagpur: A 13-year-old Class 8 girl survivor of repeated incestuous rape by her 16-year-old biological brother at a Kalmeshwar village in Nagpur district, and currently 26-week pregnant, has sought medical termination of pregnancy. Her father moved the Nagpur bench of Bombay high court on her behalf on Thursday.The Kalmeshwar police earlier admitted the survivor to Indira Gandhi Govt Medical College for initial treatment and pregnancy confirmation but she was shifted to Govt Medical College and Hospital, Nagpur on Thursday.

On the court’s directions, a specially-constituted medical board at GMCH, is set to submit its report on the medical feasibility and risks of terminating the pregnancy to the HC at an urgent hearing on Friday.At GMCH, a multi-speciality medical board comprising senior gynaecologists, paediatricians, psychiatrists, anaesthetists, and other experts immediately took charge. The board has conducted a comprehensive clinical evaluation and psychological assessment to determine the current status of the foetus, the girl’s physical ability to undergo MTP of 26-week pregnancy, and the possible complications for the minor who is facing physical and psychological trauma.Meanwhile, the 16-year-old brother, classified as a juvenile in conflict with the law, was lodged in a govt shelter home as per juvenile justice rules. A case is registered against him under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.The women and child development dept, along with district child protection officer Mushtak Pathan, is closely monitoring all aspects of the girl’s welfare.
