Patna: A 19-year-old girl, preparing for a medical examination, was found hanging in her rented accommodation in the Shyam Cinema Road area of Gopalganj town on Sunday night.The victim, identified as Ujala Kumari, had been living in the rented accommodation for the past year while preparing for the medical entrance examination through online classes. She was a native of Saraya Pahad village under Sidhwalia police station and the only sister among three brothers.According to police, several girls living nearby became suspicious after noticing that Ujala’s room door was partially opened on Sunday night. When they looked inside, they found her hanging from a ceiling fan. They immediately informed the landlord, who then alerted the police and her family.Police reached the spot and secured the room. However, amid the commotion, one of Ujala’s brothers entered the room, brought the body down and placed it on the bed.Family members said Ujala had aspired to become a doctor since childhood and had been preparing for a medical examination with that goal in mind.Police said her last known conversation was with her mother between 1pm and 2pm on Sunday. Police are trying to ascertain whom she spoke to afterward and whether anyone visited her before her death.During the investigation, police recovered a diary from the room. According to investigators, the entries suggested she had been under emotional distress. The contents of the diary are being examined as part of the probe.Sadar SDPO Kripal Chandra Jaiswal said the body had been sent for post-mortem examination. “Prima facie, the case appears to be a suicide. The exact circumstances will be known only after the post-mortem and FSL reports are received,” he said.Police said they are also examining all possible angles, including her personal relationships, though no conclusions have been reached so far.Investigators found blood on the floor of the room and are trying to determine its source. They added that the initial examination did not reveal any obvious external injuries or signs of a physical struggle. Further investigation is underway.
