Jaipur: It was an evening to remember for the medal winners of the recently held 2026 Commonwealth Games — Arundhati Choudhary and Yashvir Singh — as the champion duo was honoured by the Rajasthan chief minister Bajan Lal Sharma at the Constitution Club of Rajasthan here on Saturday.Besides gold medallist Arundhati, who reigned supreme in the 70-kg boxing category beating England’s opponent 5-0 in the final in Glasgow last week, and javelin thrower Yashvir, who bagged bronze medal behind his idol Neeraj Chopra, the CM also felicitated para shooters Rahul Sharma and Mona Agarwal, and teenage wrestler Sandhya Bishnoi terming them as the pride of the state.State sports minister and Athens Olympics silver medallist Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore was the guest of honour.

The CM said that Arundhati made history by winning the gold.Rahul Sharma won the gold medal at the Shooting Para World Cup, while Mona claimed the bronze medal. Teenager Sandhya was the youngest to get feted. The talented teenager won the silver medal at the Under-17 World Wrestling Championship, demonstrating her talent and potential.

Khelo India will give a new direction to sportsHe said that a strong sports environment has been created in the country, talent is being identified from every village, and a strong system has been created to bring them to the world stage. The Chief Minister said that the state government is continuously working to elevate sports in the state. The Maharana Pratap Sports University is being established in Jaipur at a cost of approximately ₹101 crore. The state government has also provided record-breaking financial support to encourage athletes. So far, approximately ₹52 crore in incentives and assistance has been approved for 3,540 athletes.Successfully organised Khelo India University Games 2025He said that athletes who have brought glory to the state at the national and international levels are being given priority in government services. So far, 186 athletes have been appointed. For the first time, the Khelo India University Games 2025 was also successfully organized in the state. Nearly 7,000 athletes from 222 universities participated in these games, held in seven cities. The state’s athletes performed brilliantly in these games, winning a total of 60 medals and securing third place in the country.Sports Life Insurance Scheme for players, 50 Khelo India Centres also establishedThe Chief Minister said that Rajasthan’s athletes brought glory to the state with their impressive performances in the Paris Olympics and Paralympics. The state government is sensitive to the safety of athletes. For this purpose, a sports life insurance scheme has been implemented. He said that approximately 18 crore rupees have been spent on the buy of sports equipment. Meanwhile, by establishing 50 Khelo India centers, players are being provided with regular training, sports equipment, and coaches.Centre of Excellence for Athletics, Archery and Boxing at SMS StadiumHe said that a Centre of Excellence for athletics, archery, and boxing is also being established at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. The Rajasthan Youth Policy-2026 has created new opportunities for youth in education, skills, sports, and leadership development. One sport is being promoted in each district through the One District, One Sport initiative. Additionally, the Rajasthan Target Olympic Podium Scheme has been launched to promote medals by performing well at the Olympics. Similarly, the Khelo Rajasthan Youth Games will be organized to promote traditional sports.The Chief Minister said that as a result of these efforts by the state government, in the coming years, Rajasthan will establish itself as a leading state not only in the national but also in the international sports arena.
