Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Tourism Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona on Saturday inaugurated the Mechukha Trout Quest 2.0 along the Yargyap Chu river, marking the start of the state’s major angling festival focused on fly fishing, eco-tourism, and river conservation.The event has drawn anglers from abroad and across India, with participants arriving from neighboring countries including Bhutan and Thailand, as well as from Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Nagaland, and Assam.Speaking at the inauguration, Sona said the turnout signaled Mechukha’s rising profile in sport fishing and eco-tourism. “Their presence reflects the growing recognition of Mechukha as an emerging destination for world-class sport fishing and eco-tourism,” Sona said.

He said the festival’s purpose extended beyond competition. “Beyond the thrill of the sport, Mechukha Trout Quest is a testament to our commitment to promoting responsible tourism, conserving our pristine rivers, and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for local communities,” he said.Sona also wished the participants and highlighted the region’s appeal. “I hope they enjoy the unmatched natural beauty, warm hospitality, and unique cultural heritage of Arunachal Pradesh,” he added.Organisers said the festival’s emphasis on eco-friendly angling and sustainable tourism is expected to further position Mechukha as an adventure and eco-tourism hub in Northeast India.
