Mysuru: By allowing a private organisation to use its space to install antennas without paying any rent, the Mysuru Development Authority (MDA) is once again in news for a wrong reason. An RTI query by activists BN Nagendra has revealed that the urban body has allowed a private player to use the MDA complex space in Vijayanagar, to install antennas at no cost. The urban body had given permission to the private organisation to install antennas and use the space for 10 years, in May 2024.Though a rent of Rs 265 per month was fixed, it was waived off, stating that network service would be provided for free to the public visiting the complex. Nagendra claimed that his RTI received a negative reply from the urban body officers stating there is no record available with them. He however sourced a record from another department through an RTI query leading to the disclosure of the wrongdoing. When contacted MDA in-charge commissioner KR Rakshith told TOI that following disclosure of the matter, a notice has been served to the private organisation to appear before him next week to check their records and permission letter. Rakshith said the permission was given by the previous commissioner in 2024 and as of now, no record related to it available with MDA. “I will consult my legal team before taking appropriate action,” he informed.
