New Delhi: A day after Municipal Corporation of Delhi issued an advisory asking its employees to use public transport, adopt carpooling and prefer virtual meetings to help conserve fuel, and reduce pollution and traffic congestion in the city, mayor Pravesh Wahi travelled to office by the metro on Thursday.Employees residing in nearby localities have been advised to opt for carpooling. An official said the staff had been asked not to use personal vehicles for routine commuting and non-essential movement.According to the mayor’s office, Wahi took an e-rickshaw from New Delhi metro station to reach his office. Wahi said he would make maximum use of public transport following Prime Minister’s appeal. “If everyone collectively takes initiative in this direction, serious issues such as fuel wastage, air pollution and traffic congestion in Delhi can be significantly reduced,” he added.“To reduce avoidable travel and save time and resources, official meetings, review meetings, consultations and inter-departmental discussions should, as far as possible, will be conducted through videoconferencing and other virtual platforms,” the official said.The department heads and controlling officials have been directed to sensitise employees about sustainable and eco-friendly practices.
