Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) commissioner Rahul Ratnam Pandey conducted an extensive inspection of ongoing public works and facilities across the city on Friday, emphasising quality, hygiene, and strict adherence to project deadlines.Pandey reviewed the construction progress, infrastructure, and parking facilities at the new Central Market, which is being constructed on a PPP model. MCC consultant Dharmaraj explained the systematic layout of various shops, including the meat stalls. Raghunath Somayaji, director of Somayaji Estates Pvt Ltd (the project’s lead investor), was present.The commissioner stressed the need to beautify the market’s surroundings. He recommended planting lawns and ornamental plants in strategic spots to develop it into a “model market,” a suggestion welcomed by both the architect and the investor.Anticipating a potential site visit by CM DK Shivakumar, Pandey instructed the architects and contractors to prioritise construction speed and quality, ensuring the project is completed within the stipulated timeframe.Following a public request, the commissioner also directed concerned officials to assess the feasibility of widening the road near the Rupavani theatre to ease traffic congestion.Visiting the Indira Canteen review at Urwa Stores, the commissioner assessed the food quality, kitchen sanitation, and distribution areas. The canteen supervisor briefed him on the food preparation process, pricing, revenue, and expenses.After the supervisor raised concerns about technical issues with kitchen machinery, Pandey immediately directed MCC officials to inspect and repair all equipment. He issued strict instructions to ensure zero lapses in hygiene and public service.
