Mysuru: Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) removed around 83 tonnes of waste during a cleanliness drive held early on Wednesday in the CV Road area under its ‘Independence Day cleanliness drive–2026: 80 garbage-free locations’ campaign as part of the 80th Independence Day observance.Mysuru DC Lakshmikanth Reddy, MCC commissioner MK Savita, additional commissioner Veena and corporation superintending engineer Sindhu took part in the drive.During the operation, officials cleared mixed waste, old materials, metal scrap, plastic, construction debris and other garbage that had been illegally dumped along both sides of the road for a long time.The drive deployed five backhoe loaders, 10 tipper trucks and five dozers. Encroachments on public spaces and along the roadside were also removed to improve traffic movement and create a cleaner environment.Shop owners, scrap dealers, metal workshops and other commercial establishments in the area were instructed not to dump waste in public places or along roadsides. They were also sensitised to segregate waste generated from their business activities and dispose of it scientifically in the manner prescribed by the corporation.Officials warned that fines would be imposed and legal action taken as per the rules if illegal dumping or encroachment of public spaces is noticed in the coming days.Zonal authorities were directed to maintain constant surveillance to prevent fresh dumping in the cleaned-up area. Local residents and traders were urged to cooperate with the corporation in keeping the locality clean.
