Chandigarh: The Municipal Corporation continued its intensified zone-wise enforcement drive against vendors operating from unauthorised locations despite being allotted designated vending sites.On the second day of the drive on Saturday, enforcement teams issued 80 challans to vendors found conducting business outside their allotted spaces. Officials said the action is part of the corporation’s ongoing effort to regulate street vending, ensure adherence to the designated vending system and keep public spaces free from unauthorised occupation.The MC reiterated that vendors who have been allotted sites through the prescribed draw-of-lots process must operate strictly from those locations. Officials said vending from old or unauthorised sites will not be permitted.According to the civic body, the enforcement drive is being carried out in compliance with directions issued by the Supreme Court and in accordance with the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014, and the Chandigarh Street Vending Bye-Laws, 2018.MC Commissioner Amit Kumar directed field teams to maintain strict vigilance and ensure that vendors removed from unauthorised locations do not reoccupy such sites. The corporation said the drive will continue across different zones to improve compliance and streamline street vending operations in the city.
