Times News NetworkChandigarh: The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has completed financial evaluation of the newly-planned Sector 29 community centre and received the lowest bid of around Rs 7.8 crore for the work. This is around 7.2% lower than the tender amount of Rs 8.4 crore. The process of work allotment has started and will be completed in a week or 10 days.The project is a major one, with multiple levels. First, the existing community centre will be demolished, after which the new community centre building will be constructed. The authority will conduct the exercise in line with the plan approved by the UT urban planning department.“The urban planning department of the UT has issued drawings specifying construction and open areas along with dimensions and related structural aspects of the approved building. The project will be constructed accordingly. All the required facilities have also been specified in the given plan,” sources told TOI.For the Sector 29 project, the urban planning department has approved ground, first and second floors in the community centre building, sources said. There is no provision of basement parking here and only surface parking will be provided. Requirements for marriage functions like hall, rooms for bride and groom, toilets, open area, etc are part of the plan. Provision for library and gymnasium hall has also been made.The MC plans six new community centres in sectors 24, 29, 51, 63, Bapudham Colony in Sector 26 and Manimajra in the current financial year. Of these, the one planned in Sector 51 will be the biggest, with a capacity of around 700 to 800. Its construction cost will also be significantly higher than other community centres.Currently, the city has approximately 45 community centres, from which the authority earns annual revenue of Rs 6 crore to Rs 7 crore.
