Nagpur: In a display of humanity, Nagpur mayor Neeta Thakre on Thursday halted her official convoy on a busy city road to assist an accident victim lying injured near Civil Lines. The incident unfolded shortly after the mayor completed an inspection of the Naik Talao area and was returning towards the Nagpur Municipal Corporation headquarters along with deputy mayor Leela Hathibed and standing committee chairperson Shivani Dani Wakhare.According to officials, the convoy came across 55-year-old Vibha Pundalik Bangre, who sustained injuries in the accident. Witnesses said the mayor instructed the convoy to stop after noticing the injured woman on the roadside.Ignoring the usual layers of security and official protocol, Thakre stepped out of the vehicle and rushed to the woman’s aid. Eyewitnesses described the scene as unusual for a high-ranking civic convoy, with senior public representatives attending to the victim before emergency responders arrived.Officials said the mayor herself helped comfort the injured woman and coordinated immediate medical assistance. An ambulance was arranged without delay, while instructions were issued to doctors at municipal hospitals to ensure urgent treatment and care. The injured woman was later shifted for medical attention under the supervision of civic officials.Speaking after the incident, the mayor said public service remains the foremost responsibility of elected representatives. “As public representatives, serving citizens is our first duty. In accidents, timely help can save lives. I am satisfied that we could help the woman without delay,” she said.
