Nagpur: A police team from Beltarodi conducted simultaneous raids on 17 hotels and 11 lodges along the highway connecting Nagpur to other key cities to detect terror and illegal activities. Senior inspector Mukund Kawade, who led the clinical operation confirmed success.The police contingent verified as many as 72 externed criminals and history-sheeters during the anti-sabotage operation conducted across east and south Nagpur on the intervening night of April 21 and 22, said zonal DCP Rashmitha Rao.The multiple strike squads, comprising 30 officers, 100 personnel and one riot-control commando platoon targeted criminal hubs, snuffed out potential security and sabotage threats. Police focused on suspected movements along highways leading to the Samruddhi expressway and anti-national activity in lodges and hotels. Teams conducted thorough anti-sabotage checks at strategic points, including highways, dhabas and vulnerable locations.Simultaneously, the drive targeted booze trade and other unlawful practices. Strict action was initiated against establishments involved in sale of illegal liquor under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act.The detailed results of the operation included 20 cases registered under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, two cases under the anti-narcotics Act, 64 actions taken against obscene behaviour in public places. Around 12 actions were taken against establishments operating beyond permitted hours.
