Vadodara: A major fire broke out in an open scrapyard on the Halol–Pavagadh bypass road near Halol in Panchmahal district on Monday. The cause of the blaze could not be ascertained till late evening.The fire erupted in the afternoon in an open area being used as a godown and quickly spread across the entire yard, fanned by strong winds and the presence of highly inflammable materials. Sources said the yard contained scrap such as plastic, polyurethane, PVC, wood and other similar materials.Fire tenders from the Halol, Kalol and Godhra municipalities, along with units from industries in the Halol GIDC, were rushed to the spot to control the blaze. However, despite sustained efforts, firefighters had not been able to completely bring the fire under control till Monday evening.
