Chennai: A 33-year-old man from New Washermenpet was abducted and beaten to death by a gang of eight men near Selaiyur, for deceiving a woman by hiding his marital status. The slain man, Jayakumar, was held captive for two days before being found dead near a residential compound wall in Sandhoshapuram on June 28.Police said Jayakumar, who worked at a private firm in Guindy and was married with a daughter, entered into a relationship with a woman without disclosing he was already married. During their relationship, he took a two-gram gold ring and 11,000 from her. When the woman discovered the truth, she confided in her cousin Saravanan, a resident of Chromepet. Enraged, Saravanan planned a revenge attack with seven others—Aravindhan, Naveen, Dinesh, Rajesh, Pradeep, Sachin, and Vigneshwaran alias Vicky. On June 26, the group abducted Jayakumar from Guindy in a car and detained him in different locations, including Chromepet and Kundrathur, where they subjected him to repeated assaults. Two days later, they transported the unconscious Jayakumar on a bike and dumped him near a wall in Selaiyur. Selaiyur police, alerted by locals, began an investigation and identified the victim by a tattoo on his arm that read “Shalini” (his wife’s name). CCTV footage helped trace the bike used to abandon the body to Saravanan.Six men—Saravanan, Dinesh, Rajesh, Pradeep, Sachin, and Vigneshwaran—were arrested.
