Marandi urged the CM to order a neutral inquiry into Gupta’s role

Ranchi: Ahead of BJP’s statewide agitation from Tuesday to Friday against FIRs lodged against students protesting alleged irregularities in JPSC and JSSC examinations, leader of opposition Babulal Marandi on Monday demanded an impartial probe into former DGP Anurag Gupta’s alleged role in the JSSC-CGL controversy. In a statement, Marandi alleged that chief minister Hemant Soren’s reluctance to act against Gupta had raised serious questions. He accused the former police chief of influencing the investigation, attempting to derail the probe and facilitating the destruction of digital evidence linked to the case. “The govt must ensure a fair and transparent inquiry,” Marandi said.Questioning Gupta’s earlier dismissal of allegations of irregularities in the examination, Marandi said, “He had publicly rejected the allegations of irregularities in JSSC-CGL while he was at the helm. His role must now be probed.”The demand comes as CID continues to make arrests in connection with the alleged exam irregularities. On Sunday night, the agency arrested Kundan Kumar, a resident of Palamu district, taking the total number of arrests in the case to 10.CID had earlier registered a case and formed a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the alleged irregularities in the examination process.Marandi said questions over the credibility of the CID investigation would persist unless allegations against officers accused of influencing the probe were examined independently. “I urge the CM to order a neutral inquiry into Gupta’s role and ensure strict action if any wrongdoing is established,” he said.Congress state general secretary Alok Kumar Dubey accused BJP of using the students as a political tool to regain lost ground. He said, “BJP should instead seek answers from the Centre on paper leaks, unemployment, recruitment exam transparency and youth safety rather than misleading the public.”
