Mapusa: The investigation into the suspected suicide pact involving a family at Indiranagar-Karaswada has taken a complex turn, with preliminary post-mortem findings failing to establish the exact cause of death.Superintendent of police Salim Sheikh said the initial findings indicate that bank employee Ajay Jadhav, 38, his wife Suvarna, 30, and their seven-year-old son Atharva consumed a poisonous substance.Investigators suspect the child was administered the poison by his parents before they took their own lives. While the autopsy did not identify the exact lethal agent, medical examinations found Suvarna’s intestines to be severely stained and discoloured, indicating possible chemical toxicity.“Forensic teams have preserved the viscera samples of all three family members for advanced histopathology and chemical examination, which will be conducted in Goa,” Sheikh said.Meanwhile, Mapusa police are scheduled to conduct a second, detailed forensic search of the rented apartment, which was found locked from the inside when the incident came to light.Police sources said statements recorded from five close relatives, including Ajay’s father and brother, have revealed no suspicious leads or evidence of personal disputes.Family members described Ajay as an educated professional with stable living conditions and no known financial distress. The suspected suicide pact has left investigators with more questions than answers.Police said all angles are being examined as they await the toxicology reports.
