Panaji: A Mapusa court granted anticipatory bail to actor Rajdeep Naik in a case at Valpoi police station in connection with protests against TCP’s Section 39 A on piecemeal land conversion. The court stated that the prosecution did not make out a case for his custodial interrogation.A complaint was filed against him, stating that he provoked a breach of peace and insulted people in Sattari by calling them cattle.Naik told the court that he was responding to threats made by the TCP minister on a public platform in the presence of the chief minister, who is also the home minister. He also submitted that he is a victim of a political vendetta.The court stated that the investigation officer did not explain why Naik’s custodial interrogation was necessary. The public prosecutor said it was required to find out who instigated him to make the statement, but the court observed that the prosecutor’s submission was not supported by the record and could not be accepted.The court observed that he cooperated with the investigation and had no intention of evading it. The court granted anticipatory bail, considering the nature of the offence and noting that he is a resident with less risk of absconding.
