Lucknow: A day after a 35-year-old medical representative died after his throat was slit by a kite string, retired army personnel got seriously injured in a similar incident on Shaheed Path on Thursday.Brijesh Rai, a resident of Arjunganj, is a retired Army man currently employed at the Kalyan Singh Cancer Institute in Sushant Golf City, police said.
According to family members, he was returning home from duty on his scooter when a sharp Chinese kite string lying across the road suddenly got entangled around his mouth and face. The impact was severe. The glass-coated string inflicted deep cuts on his jaw and face, leaving his lip badly severed. Rai lost balance and fell on the road, bleeding profusely. Passers-by immediately rushed to assist him and informed the police. A police team reached the spot and shifted him to Command Hospital. Doctors attending to him said he sustained deep facial and jaw injuries and required nearly 30 stitches. After primary treatment, he was later discharged and is recovering. Eyewitnesses said the incident unfolded within seconds. “He suddenly lost control and fell. When we reached him, his face was covered in blood. We called the police and ambulance immediately,” said a local commuter who stopped to help. “Despite the ban, these deadly kite strings are still easily available. It is becoming risky even to ride on main roads,” said a passer-by.
