Imphal: Manipur governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Wednesday presented Governor’s Unit Citation 2026 to 11 units of central armed forces and Manipur Police in honour of their outstanding service in the state.During the investiture ceremony for the citation held at MSFDS, Palace Compound in Imphal, citations were awarded to 19 Garhwal Rifles, 17 Assam Rifles, 38 Assam Rifles, 40 Assam Rifles, 2 Mahar Regiment, 25 BRTF, Kakching District Police, Senapati District Police, Churachandpur District Police, 10 BSF, and 143 CRPF in recognition of their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the state.Speaking on the occasion, CM Yumnam Khemchand Singh said since the unrest began on May 3, 2023, multiple incidents have taken place, with security forces rescuing around 47,000 civilians from both communities.While security forces play a key role in ensuring a peaceful atmosphere, he said public cooperation through dialogue and collective efforts is essential to restore normalcy.Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla lauded the role of security forces in restoring stability in the state, and emphasised that their coordinated efforts, particularly in the aftermath of the 2023 unrest, helped maintain law and order and rebuild public confidence.The governor said the Unit Citation is awarded on a rotational basis after due consultation, recognizing collective excellence, discipline, and commitment in areas such as counterinsurgency operations, humanitarian assistance, and internal security.Stressing the link between peace and development, Bhalla underscored the importance of continued cooperation between security forces and civil administration to ensure long-term stability and progress in Manipur.
