He attended the reception ceremony organised by Senapati District Frontal Organisations. During the reception, the Chief Minister was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho and MLAs Awangbow Newmai, Tongbram Robindro Singh and J. Kumo Sha.
Yumnam Khemchand Singh hailed the civil society organisations of Senapati, Mao and Kangpokpi for their unwavering support to the Government’s initiative to restore peace and normalcy, after the State had been hard hit by the unprecedented conflict.
He maintained that his visit to Senapati district by road today has become possible only with their support and cooperation.
Khemchand emphasized the need for balanced and inclusive development across the state, saying that Manipur cannot progress unless all districts are developed alongside the capital city Imphal.
He advocated that equal development and high per capita income across the state would led to mutual understanding and harmony among communities inhabiting in different parts of the state.
“The territorial integrity of Manipur have been safeguarding by the 36 different communities inhabited in the State since time immemorial. Thus, Manipur is considered a Mini India” he added.“First we are Indian and then we are Manipuri” he says, continuing that we all should work together as Manipuri and take our state to a new height of development.
The Chief Minister recalled the advocacy of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who had envisioned that India cannot develop unless North East India is developed. He said that the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DONER) was established during his tenure as Prime Minister.
While responding to a memorandum submitted by the Naga People’s Organisation to establish a Medical College in the District, the Chief Minister informed the gathering that he will put up and discuss the matter in the next State Cabinet meeting.
On the Improvement of the sewerage system in the district, the Chief Minister directed Deputy Chief Minister Shri Losii Dikho, who holds the portfolio of Public Health Engineering, to prepare a DPR for the same.
Regarding relocation of the Senapati Police Station, as the current location is congested and people have raised concerns, the Chief Minister further said that the matter will be examined and necessary action will be taken.
Regarding the proposal for development of Barak Festival site, Yumnam Khemchand Singh informed that he will consult with the Tourism Department and the concerned stakeholders to chalk out the designs for development of the festival site as desired.
Deputy CM, Losii Dikho, while addressing the gathering, commended the residents of Senapati consisting of five tribes- Mao, Maram, Poumai, Thangal and Zeliangrong for their exemplary role as a peace-loving people.
Khemchand Singh, while returning from Senapati District to Imphal after attending the reception ceremony, stopped at the residence of MLA Saitu Assembly Constituency Haokholet Kipgen located at Hengbung, Kangpokpi district.
The Chief Minister interacted with the independent MLA and discussed in brief on the various developmental projects undertaken in the Constituency. The Chief Minister assured to look into the issues raised by the MLA and to provide necessary assistance.
The short interaction was attended by Deputy Commissioner, Senapati Mamoni Doley and Deputy Commissioner Kangpokpi Shri Mahesh Chaudhari.
Khemchand Singh made his maiden visit to Senapati District via Kangpokpi after almost a gap of 3 years since 3rd May, 2023 after assuming the office of GOC. The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Red Shield Division of India Army visited remote and isolated villages Sinaikeithei and Tingpibubg of Manipur inhabited by Tangkhul and Kuki communities to assess the prevailing situation and engage directly with the local populace.
During the visit, the GOC interacted with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and village headmen, holding constructive discussions focused on fostering mutual understanding and exploring peaceful resolutions to the ongoing tensions. Emphasising dialogue and cooperation, he urged all stakeholders to work collectively towards restoring harmony and stability in the region.
Reassuring the villagers, the GOC conveyed that the Indian Army remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all communities. He highlighted that the Army will continue to act as a neutral and reliable force, dedicated to protecting lives and maintaining peace.
The visit reflects the Indian Army’s continued efforts to build trust, strengthen community relations, and support long-term peace in the region.
