Chennai: Congress MP Mancikam Tagore on Wednesday resigned from the post of election management and coordination committee constituted for Tamil Nadu assembly election. The resignation has come at a time when Congress is finalising its candidates for the election. Though Manickam Tagore did not offer any reason for his decicion, Congress sources said that he was unhappy with the candidate selection process. Over the last few months, Tagore was advocating for a larger share of seats in DMK alliance and a share in power as well. Congress had to settle for lesser seats and drop the power sharing demand. His resignation has come as an indication of further discontentment in the party’s electoral strategy. Meanwhile, Sathyamurthy Bhavan, the Congress headquarters in Chennai, witnessed high drama on Wednesday as a two groups of party cadres held a protest. While supporters of Tamil Nadu Mahila Congress state president Hazeena Syed protested with placards demanding seat for her, members of Tamil Nadu Congress Sevadal thronged the party office demanding seat for one of their functionaries.
