Mandya: In a step towards promoting reading habits and strengthening knowledge resources in the district, Mandya deputy commissioner Kumara Wednesday inspected sites identified for allotting land to the Ankegowda Jnana Pratishthana Pustaka Mane, founded by Padma Shri awardee M Ankegowda.The DC visited the Karnataka Housing Board residential layout at Elechakanahalli village in Kothathi Hobli of Mandya taluk to assess the availability of civic amenity sites. The inspection was undertaken following a proposal to allot two acres of land for the expansion of the library and knowledge centre.During his visit, Kumara held discussions with officials and sought detailed information regarding the suitability of the site, availability of infrastructure and other facilities required for the proposed project.This comes two days after Ankegowda met chief minister D K Shivakumar and requested him to allot five acres of land for the construction of a private library and allot Rs 5 crore in grants. The CM had assured him that he would explore the possibility of extending two acres of land.The proposed land allotment is expected to facilitate the development of additional infrastructure for the library, enabling it to expand its educational and knowledge-based activities for students, researchers and the public.Speaking on the occasion, Kumara said the district administration is committed to encouraging a culture of reading and learning among the younger generation. He noted that strengthening institutions such as Pustaka Mane would create greater opportunities for knowledge acquisition and provide enhanced educational resources to the public.
