Ghaziabad: A 30-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stealing valuables worth Rs 25 lakh from a house in Link Road.Police identified the man as Ali Mohammed alias Alimuddiin, a resident of a slum in Seemapuri. The case came to light after a Ramprasth Colony resident, Pradeep Gupta, filed a complaint at the Link Road police station on Sept 20. He told the cops that his family had been asleep in the downstairs rooms as an AC unit in the first-floor bedroom had stopped working. The next morning, when they went into that room, they saw that the window grilles hadbeen removed and jewellery and cash worth Rs 25 lakh kept inside a locked almirah had been stolen.An FIR was registered under BNS sections for theft and for lurking around a house or breaking in at night to commit an offence.DCP (trans-Hindon zone) Rijual said teams were formed to nab the accused. They traced Mohammed with the help of CCTV footage and human intelligence and arrested him on Thursday. Rs 19,000 in cash and jewellery worth Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh were recovered from his possession. The cops also seized a screwdriver and iron rod that were allegedly used in the crime.Mohammed allegedly told the cops that he was lurking around the house on the night of Sept 19 when he came across Gupta’s house. He noticed that the outer unit of the AC installed in the first-floor bedroom was not working. He waited for three hours and then climbed up the pipes and peeped into the room. He saw that no one was there. So, he removed the grille with a screwdriver, entered the room and then broke the almirah lock to steal the valuables.“He had hidden the valuables in his jhuggi and some bushes near the crossing area near Seemapuri,” the DCP said. There are around 25 cases registered against Mohammed in Ghaziabad and Delhi.
