CUDDALORE: S Ayyappan, 28, who was accused of stabbing a Class XI girl in Chidambaram for turning down his proposal, died by suicide on Sunday.Police said Ayyappan, an electrician residing in C Mutlur village near Chidambaram in Cuddalore district, was found hanging in his house. Police were alerted by his relatives and the body was sent for postmortem to the govt hospital around midnight.The girl, meanwhile, continued to be in a critical condition in Rajah Muthiah govt medical college and hospital at Annamalai Nagar in Chidambaram, police said.According to police, Ayyappan had been stalking the 16-year-old school student for the past several days. Despite repeated rejections from the girl, Ayyappan continued to harass her. On Sunday, Ayyappan barged into her house when she was alone and demanded that she accept his proposal.When the girl rejected him, Ayyappan drew a penknife he had concealed and repeatedly stabbed her across her neck, back, and hands.
