Daltonganj: A 55-year-old man suffered severe injuries to both palms in a suspected explosion in a forest near Kachan village under Ramgarh police station limits on Tuesday. The injured man, Sanicharwa Ram, told police he was digging for wild mushrooms when an explosive device allegedly went off around 7 am. He was admitted to Medinirai Medical College and Hospital (MMCH), Daltonganj, at around 9 am.However, police said his account appeared questionable. Investigators noted that while both his palms were badly damaged, he did not sustain injuries to his face or head, which they said would be unusual if an explosion occurred while he was bent over collecting mushrooms.Police also pointed to recent heavy rainfall in the area, saying an explosive lying exposed in the open was unlikely to detonate under such conditions.Ramgarh police station officer-in charge Om Prakash Sao said the matter was under investigation.Sources said villagers sometimes use crude explosive devices to trap or scare away wild boars, and police have not ruled out that possibility. Further investigations are underway to ascertain the exact circumstances behind the blast.
