Kolkata: A 25-year-old woman residing in south-east Kolkata filed a written complaint on March 5 alleging sustained harassment, both online and offline, by a man residing in her neighbourhood since Nov 13. She alleged that this included stalking, threats, blackmail, and even attempted assault by slashing at her by a man who was “pressurising her to marry him”. She also claimed that her photograph was edited and later circulated on social media to pressure her into marriage.The complaint also alleged that the man, Ziaul Haque, followed her on the road multiple times and attempted to approach her, leaving her feeling unsafe and frightened. On Feb 25, around 3.30 pm, she alleged, the accused tried to forcibly stop her using a blade and harm her bodily.
An FIR was immediately lodged under multiple sections of BNS, said cops.
