Coimbatore: A man and his son were arrested on Saturday, in connection with the murder of a young woman near Kinathukadavu on July 27.The arrested have been identified as G Palanimuthu, 35, and his father Gurunathan, 60, of Pollachi.Police said Palanimuthu and the deceased, Sangeetha, 30, had been in an extramarital relationship for the past three years. Over the last six months, Palanimuthu suspected Sangeetha of having a relationship with another person, leading to frequent quarrels between them. On July 27, during a heated argument at his rented house in Kinathukadavu, Palanimuthu stabbed Sangeetha to death with a knife.Following the murder, Palanimuthu and his father wrapped the body in a blanket and transported it on a two-wheeler to a secluded area near Sentharampalayam intersection. They later poured petrol and set the body ablaze to conceal the crime and destroy evidence.On Friday, Kinathukadavu police were alerted after a partially charred body of a woman was found lying in a vacant plot near a private company close to Sentharampalayam intersection on Saturday. Police recovered the body and sent it to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for a postmortem. A case was registered and six teams were formed to investigate.The special teams analysed footage from over 120 CCTV cameras located in and around the crime scene, petrol bunks, and suspect routes. During the review, investigators spotted a suspicious two-wheeler near the crime scene on July 27. By tracing the vehicle’s movement across multiple cameras, police determined that it had travelled from Pollachi. Police eventually identified the suspect as Palanimuthu of Pollachi. He confessed to the murder, when question by investigators.Both the accused were presented before the magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
