Kumod Verma | TNNPatna: In a tragic incident a 37-year-old man was shot by armed miscreants on a moving train in Bihar’s Khagaria district after he resisted an attempt to snatch his valuables. The victim was rushed to a government hospital in Khagaria in a serious condition. Sensing his seriousness, he was later shifted to a private hospital in Begusarai where his condition was stated to be stable now.According to Katihar superintendent of rail police Hari Shankar Kumar, the incident occurred around 8.30 p.m. on Thursday near Badlaghat railway station on the Mansi- Saharsa section under Samastipur division of the East Central Railway ( ECR ). The victim, identified as Dev Kumar Gunjan, a resident of Godda in Jharkhand, was travelling in the general coach of the weekly Amritsar – Narpatganj Jansadharan Express ( 14604 ) to Supaul when armed men allegedly tried to loot him, he said adding surprisingly the miscreants targeted him alone in the coach.Gunjan who received a gun shot injuries in his chest , was going to Supaul where his wife Ashmita Kumari is posted as motor vehicle inspector (MVI). Preliminary inquiry revealed that Gunjan is an employee of the Jamui based Malaypur power grid where his wife also worked prior to her selection as MVI in Supaul in 2024 , rail SP said adding police investigations are underway from all possible angles including any old enmity.According to Mansi police sources, the incident triggered panic for a while among passengers. Following the incident, railway police reached the Badlaghat station soon and cordoned off the entire area where the miscreants who were said to be two or three in numbers , fled away under cover of darkness, Mansi GRP official Ravi Kumar said adding a case has been registered with the GRP Khagaria in this connection . No arrest has been made so far , police said. .
