Kanpur: A special Pocso Act court on Monday convicted a man for raping his minor daughter in Kanpur nearly four years ago and sentenced him to life imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on the accused.In his order, presiding judge Pawan Kumar Rai observed that the offence committed by the accused was “heinous” and “shocking for society”.“The victim was a minor, and her father was her natural guardian in the absence of her mother. But instead of fulfilling his responsibilities, he exploited the minor girl,” the judge said.The judge further directed that the fine amount be given to the survivor for her rehabilitation.The FIR in the case was registered on Aug 23, 2022.According to special public prosecutor Chandrakant Sharma, the survivor initially turned hostile during her testimony in court. She claimed that her landlady had influenced her to accuse her father and that he had not physically exploited her.However, during cross-examination, she admitted that her father had raped her. According to the prosecution, the accused lived in the Rawatpur area with his son and daughter. During this period, he allegedly raped his daughter multiple times over nearly 10 months.The survivor reportedly confided in her landlady, who encouraged her to lodge an FIR. She also told police that her mother had left the family eight years back due to domestic violence.
