T’puram: A fast-track Pocso court in Kattakada sentenced a 30-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in 2023.Judge V Vinod convicted Arun alias Kannan of Perumkazhuthoor, and imposed a fine of Rs 70,000.According to prosecution, the incident occurred on April 18, 2023, when the accused allegedly trespassed into the girl’s house while she was alone. He entered her bedroom and assaulted the minor. The girl’s father, who returned home after hearing her cries, knocked on the bedroom door, prompting the accused to flee the house. The accused later went into hiding after the incident and was arrested by Kanjiramkulam police team.Public prosecutor D R Pramod appeared for the prosecution.The investigation was carried out by then Kanjiramkulam police inspector Aji Chandran, who completed the probe and filed the chargesheet before the court.
