Gurgaon: A 51-year-old Delhi resident was arrested after he allegedly impersonated a senior Himachal Pradesh Police officer to pressure a Gurgaon SHO into restoring electricity to his wife’s shop in a city mall.The accused, Karan Kumar Sakuja, a resident of Neb Sarai in south Delhi, was arrested by DLF Sector 29 police on Saturday.Sakuja’s wife owns a shop in Mega Mall, where the electricity supply had been disconnected by mall management over a monetary dispute. Instead of taking up the matter with the management, Sakuja allegedly called the official mobile phone of DLF Sector 29 SHO, introducing himself as “SP Chandan Singh” of Himachal Pradesh Police.

He demanded that power to the shop be restored immediately, invoking the director general of police’s name to lend credibility to his claim.“The caller attempted to exert pressure on the SHO by citing the DGP while demanding immediate restoration of electricity to a showroom,” police spokesperson Sandeep Turan said.The SHO grew suspicious and deputed a team to verify the caller’s identity. The verification revealed that the caller was not a police officer but Sakuja himself. “A case was immediately registered,” Turan said.Sakuja was arrested from the city later the same day. During interrogation, he admitted to impersonating the officer after his wife’s shop lost power.Police said further investigation is underway to determine whether Sakuja has impersonated govt officials on previous occasions.
