Ara: A routine morning walk turned fatal for a sweet shop owner and his nephew in Bhojpur district on Wednesday when they were electrocuted after coming into contact with a live electric wire lying on the road. The incident occurred on the Chandi-Kulhariya road under Chandi police station area.According to eyewitnesses, the electric wire had allegedly snapped and fallen on the road due to the growing monkey menace in the area. The deceased were identified as Mahendra Shah (56) and his nephew Sanjay Kumar (30), both residents of Chandi village. Mahendra ran a sweet shop, while Sanjay worked there.“Both my father and my cousin had gone for their usual morning walk on the Chandi-Kulhariya road, around 200 metres from our village. My father, who was barefoot, accidentally came into contact with a fallen low-tension (LT) electric wire and was electrocuted. When my cousin rushed to save him, he too touched the live wire and collapsed. We immediately took them to Ara sadar hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead,” said Ravi Kumar, son of Mahendra Shah.Police sent the bodies for post-mortem at Ara sadar hospital. Mahendra Shah is survived by his wife and two sons. Sanjay Kumar was the youngest among six siblings.Confirming the deaths of two persons due to electrocution, Chandi SHO Rakesh Kumar Raushan said, “An investigation is underway to ascertain how they came in contact with the electric wire as well as the exact reason for falling of the wire.”
