SALEM: A man murdered his wife in Salem on Wednesday as he suspected that she was involved in an extramarital relationship, according to police.The murdered woman has been identified as Jayanthi, 40, wife of V Mahendran of Washermen’s Colony. The couple, who ran a samosa shop in the Gugai locality, have two daughters and a son.According to an officer at the Kitchipalayam police station, the couple quarrelled around 10.30 am on Wednesday. “During the heated verbal exchange, Mahendran attacked Jayanthi and used a nylon rope to strangle her,” the officer said. Neighbours rushed to the spot on hearing her cries, but she had died before they could intervene.A team from the Kitchipalayam police station reached the scene and began investigations. Police registered a case and launched a search for Mahendran who was absconding.(No photo)
