Rajkot: A man allegedly strangled his friend’s mother on Monday and hid the body in a sack. The body was discovered on Thursday, after which C Division police in Jamnagar registered a murder case against Vijay Odich. The accused had a long relationship with the 43-year-old victim, Rinki Devi Katheriya, a widow who worked in a factory. Her 19-year-old son, Rohitsinh Katheriya, filed a complaint against Odich. The FIR states that Rinkidevi frequently demanded money from the accused and threatened to file a police complaint against him if he did not comply. Fed up with her threats, Odich allegedly took her to his uncle Kana’s house, near Gayatri Temple, on the evening of March 23. There, between 7pm and 8pm, he strangled her, tied the body up and put it in a sack. That night, when Rohitsinh returned home from work, he found the house locked and his mother missing. Aided by a municipal councillor, Furkan, her family searched for her before filing a missing person’s complaint on the night of March 24. The accused, a friend of Rohitsinh, initially feigned ignorance and even participated in the search.Police made a breakthrough in the case when they interrogated Vijay. He admitted to killing Rinki Devi over her persistent demands for money and told cops that he had hidden her body in a sack at his uncle’s house. Cops recovered the victim’s decomposed body from his uncle’s house and sent it to GG Hospital for an autopsy. Odich has been booked for murder under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
