Coimbatore: Two siblings and three of their friends were arrested on Thursday, for murdering a 30-year-old man in Pollachi on Wednesday night. Of the arrested, police said four are minors and one is an adult identified as Tej Ashwin, 19, of Pollachi.Pollachi west police have identified the deceased as Poovarasan, of Pollachi. Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was in an extramarital relationship with the mother of two minor boys. Poovarasan was a formerly employed at a bakery in Pollachi. He was reportedly terminated from his job after the bakery owner came to know of Poovarasan’s affair with his wife. However, Poovarasan continued to frequent the bakery, which led to recurring disputes with the bakery owner’s family.“On Wednesday, Poovarasan visited the bakery around 10.30pm. Later while he was heading towards Thiruvalluvar Thidal in Pollachi, he was intercepted by the bakery owner’s two minor sons, and three others. The group attacked Poovarasan violently, pushed him to the ground and kicked him repeatedly. He sustained a fatal injury to his head during the attack,” said a police officer.Bystanders rushed Poovarasan to the Pollachi district headquarters hospital, where doctors declared him dead. A postmortem was later held at the ESI Govt Medical College Hospital in Coimbatore.Meanwhile, following investigation, Ashwin was produced before the court and lodged in judicial custody, while the four minor boys were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and later sent to an observation home.
