BENGALURU: A 42-year-old man was murdered by his friend after consuming alcohol near Kick Bunk Bar in RK Township Layout in Yarandahalli near Bommasandra on the night of March 25. The accused, identified as Basudev Mallick, 30, had stuffed the body in a plastic gunny bag and escaped. The deceased was identified as Sunil Nayak, a construction labourer. The accused, Mallick, a native of Odisha, also worked as a construction labourer along with Nayak. Nayak and his wife Pushpa had rented a house in Police Layout in Yarandahalli. On March 26, Pushpa approached the house owner, Anand N, informing him that her husband had gone missing. She told him that he had last visited the house around 2 pm on March 25 for lunch and had not returned home, and was not reachable on the phone.Anand, Pushpa, and her relatives went in search of Nayak and found a gunny bag in an empty space near the bar. They found Nayak’s body stuffed in the bag around 4 pm, prompting Anand to alert the police via helpline 112. The Hebbagodi police, after reaching the spot, found that someone had killed Nayak by slitting his throat.A case of murder was registered, and during the investigation, police found that Nayak and Mallick had purchased liquor at a bar. Based on the clues, police began searching for Mallick. After nabbing the accused, police learned that Mallick had allegedly developed intentions to be in a relationship with Pushpa. He believed that eliminating Nayak would clear the way for him.On the night of the incident, Mallick targeted Nayak when he was under the influence of alcohol. He slit Nayak’s throat with a knife, killing him on the spot. He then stuffed the body in a gunny bag and planned to dispose of it elsewhere. However, noticing people near the bar, he abandoned the body at the empty space. Mallick told police that a couple of days before the murder, Pushpa had informed him that Nayak assaulted her over trivial issues under the influence of alcohol. She further told him that he would often fight with her after returning home from work. As Mallick had feelings for her, he killed Nayak. Police have recovered the knife from the accused. Further investigation is underway. Deputy commissioner of police (Electronics City) M Narayana said there is no role of Pushpa in the crime. She had only shared her ordeal with Mallick and sought his emotional support.
