Amravati: A man was killed and another critically injured in an attack with sharp-edged weapons following a dispute near the weekly market in Badnera on Sunday.The deceased has been identified as Sheikh Qasim, a resident of Gulista Nagar. The injured, Soheb Shah Sardar Shah, is undergoing treatment at a hospital and his condition is stated to be serious.According to preliminary information, an argument broke out among a few persons in the weekly market area under jurisdiction of Badnera police. The dispute reportedly escalated near a liquor shop, where the accused attacked the victims with sharp weapons.Qasim sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot. Soheb Shah was rushed to the hospital with serious wounds.On being alerted, a team from Badnera police reached the spot and conducted a panchnama. Police have registered a case of murder and have launched an investigation to ascertain the motive, the number of accused involved and the exact sequence of events.Police are scanning CCTV footage from the weekly market and surrounding areas to identify the attackers.The incident triggered tension in the locality for some time. A scuffle reportedly broke out between two groups after the attack, in which a few persons sustained minor injuries.Police have deployed additional force in the area to maintain law and order. Further investigation is underway.
