Hyderabad: A 28-year-old carpenter died and his friend sustained injuries after the bike they were riding was hit by a private water tanker at Puppalaguda under the Narsingi police station limits on Tuesday night. After ramming the bike, the tanker also hit a car and another two-wheeler, damaging both vehicles.The deceased was identified as Sushil Kumar, a resident of Lakshmiguda in Katedan. The accident occurred at around 8 pm near the Puppalaguda toll gate when Sushil Kumar and his friend, Suresh, both natives of Banda district in Uttar Pradesh, were returning to Katedan after completing work at a flat in Hafeezpet.“A water tanker travelling at a high speed rammed into the bike from behind. Due to the impact, Sushil Kumar, who was riding pillion, died on the spot, while Suresh sustained injuries,” Narsingi inspector D Vishnu Vardhan Reddy said.The injured was shifted to a nearby hospital, where his condition is said to be stable. Even after hitting the bike, the tanker driver continued to drive negligently. “He brushed against a car and a two-wheeler before bringing the vehicle to a halt. Both vehicles suffered partial damage, but their drivers did not sustain any injuries,” the inspector said.Police shifted Sushil’s body to the Osmania General Hospital mortuary for a postmortem. A case was registered under Sections 106(1) (causing death due to negligence), 125(a) (causing hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the BNS and the MV Act. The truck driver, Ranjit Simha of Khanapur, was apprehended near the spot and subjected to a breath analyser test. He was found not to be under the influence of alcohol. Police served a notice directing him to appear for questioning.
