Silchar: Police arrested a man in Cachar’s Katigorah on Monday evening over alleged derogatory social media remarks about Hindu beliefs, traditions and women.The accused, Minarul Haque, known as “Viral Minarul” on social media, was arrested within about an hour of a complaint being lodged at Katigorah police station, sources said.The BJP’s Katigorah Mandal Mahila Morcha filed the complaint, alleging that Haque posted objectionable comments on Facebook targeting Sanatan Hinduism, religious rituals, cultural traditions and Hindu women.BJP leaders welcomed the swift action and thanked Katigorah police station officer-in-charge Naba Kumar Saikia for acting promptly.Police sources said investigators were examining the posts cited in the complaint to establish their content and context and determine the applicable legal provisions.Further action will be taken in accordance with law based on the investigation’s findings, sources said.Police are also monitoring the situation in Katigorah to prevent any untoward incident following the controversy.
